Forum

Political and economic processes in CIS countries require modern educational policy to implement measures that, in line with global sustainable development goals, can contribute to improving the quality of the educational process, the competitiveness of educational institutions, and the training of highly qualified personnel for the region's modern innovative economies.

CIS countries have specific characteristics in the context of educational policy development that should be taken into account when planning innovations, transformations and, in general, the renewal of educational systems. This concerns the long-term development of education systems, the focus on integrating education systems due to common historical roots and traditions of education and science development, and the existence of common scientific schools. At the same time, there are unresolved issues in the legislative sphere that hinder full integration processes.

Figures and Facts

Global trends dictate the need for the CIS region to be included in global vectors of educational development. One such vector is embodied in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to improve living conditions for people around the world and enhance them for future generations.
The 4th Sustainable Development Goal is related to education as one of the main factors in human development.
In accordance with the "Action Plan for Coordination in 2020-2030 for the Implementation of SDG 4 by the CIS Member States" approved by the decision of the Council for Cooperation in Education of the CIS Member States on 7 October 2021, efforts must be made to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Many teachers in higher education institutions in the CIS countries are not familiar with methods of teaching students with special needs, which reduces the quality of education for such students.
The limited budgets of most higher education institutions make it impossible to introduce modern technical solutions and train staff.

Discussion Issues

  • Equal access to quality education.
  • Quality education as a path to professional development and financial stability.
  • Combating various types of inequality in education.
  • Accessible environment and infrastructure for education.
  • Training personnel with the necessary skills for employment in developing economies.
  • Legislation issues ensuring a stable regulatory framework for educational activities.
  • Relationship between the level of socio-economic development and the degree of humanisation of education.
  • Student support and adaptation services: creating individual educational pathways.
