Youth Section, Rectorate Hall

Session

The CIS countries strive to ensure justice, equality and respect for human dignity guaranteeing the rights and opportunities for people with disabilities. Education policy actively supports the principles of inclusion promoting the education and integration of young people with special needs.

In practice, however, implementing these goals is really difficult: many university teachers lack the necessary skills to work with such students, educational institutions are poorly equipped with accessible infrastructure, information and communication technologies and textbooks rarely consider the specific needs of visually impaired and deaf students. Added to this are social stereotypes and gaps in legislation, which further complicate the acquisition of a quality education and a successful career for young people with disabilities. These key issues will be discussed by experts within the framework of the thematic section.

Figures and Facts

Many university teachers in the CIS countries are unaware of the methods for teaching students with special needs, which reduces the quality of education for these students.
Most universities are not physically adapted for students with limited mobility or vision, which creates serious obstacles to comfortable learning.
The lack of digital equipment and software designed specifically for students with disabilities complicates the educational process.
The limited budget of most universities makes it impossible to implement modern technical solutions and train personnel.

Discussion Issues

  • Role of international cooperation in promoting inclusive education in the CIS countries.
  • Relationship between the level of socio-economic development and the degree of humanisation of education using the CIS countries as an example.
